Lionel D
Lionel D is a former team leader of the Belgian Special Unit (GROUP DIANE/DSU) and author of the bestseller:
“Chasseur de terroristes” (F) and “Terroristenjager” (NL). He was guest of several national and international podcasts and Tv shows. While he initiated his career as a patrolling officer in the streets of Brussels in 2000 he enlisted for the mythical tests of the elite force of the GROUP DIANE. He rolled out of the excruciating 18 months fase in 2003 and was during more than 15 years assaulter, breacher/explosive expert and teamleader of the Intervention Unit. He left the unit and the police forces in 2017 after had dedicating his life to his job. Nowadays Lionel turns to be consultant, keynote speaker and personal coach.
Be hard for yourself but have grace for others, embrace the suck and stay out of your comfort zone, have heroes but don’t idolize people, build strong alliances and avoid burning bridges, consider you can be wrong, be hard but have tact, treat everyone with respect, lead by example, think multiple steps ahead, praise your subordinates in public and criticize in private, don’t mistake arrogance for confidence, power and leadership are not rights but privileges.

Throughout his career at GROUP DIANE, he specialized as an explosives expert, car and motorcycle instructor for special operations, shooting instructor, and barrier breaching, which made him a highly regarded breacher and explosives expert. His role as team leader of the Intervention Unit allowed him to lead complex operations under high pressure, where precision and rapid decision-making were essential.
